Client ledgers

Load the ledger list from the client's Tally company, so every row is mapped to a ledger that really exists. The file is read on this device and saved only in this browser.

Load ledgers from Tally

Tally XML (Masters or List of Accounts), Excel (.xlsx) or CSV with ledger names and groups.

No Tally file handy? (synthetic "Sharma Traders", exported from TallyPrime) and try it with the HDFC and SBI business samples.

How to export the ledger list from TallyPrime
  1. Open the client's company in TallyPrime.
  2. Press Alt+E (Export) and choose Masters.
  3. Press C (Configure). Set Type of Masters to Accounting Masters (or All Masters) and File Format to XML (Data Interchange). Note the folder path.
  4. Press Esc, then E (Send). Choose the .xml file here.

Prefer Excel? Open Display More Reports → List of Accounts, press Alt+E → Current and pick Excel, or use any sheet with a Name column and an Under (group) column. Tally.ERP 9: Display → List of Accounts → E: Export. Only names and groups are read; balances and addresses are ignored.

A profile file holds this client's ledger names, rules and remembered choices (no statements or amounts). Use it to move the client to another computer or share it with staff.

Saved in this browser only.

How it works

From PDF to posted vouchers in four steps

No account, no upload, no setup. The same flow works for one statement or a month-end stack.

01

Open the PDF

Drag in a statement from net banking. If it is password protected, type the password; it is used only on your device.

02

Check the numbers

Date, narration, ref, debit, credit and balance are read, then every running balance and the closing total are verified. Mismatches are flagged, never guessed.

03

Map ledgers

Set rules like "contains SWIGGY → Staff Welfare". They are saved in your browser and applied to every statement.

04

Export

Excel with a summary sheet, CSV, or Tally-compatible XML vouchers (Payment, Receipt, Contra) plus a ledger masters file.

Private by design

Your clients' statements never leave your computer

Many converters ask you to upload the PDF to their server. KhataSheet sends the converter to you instead: the code runs in your browser tab, reads the PDF there and builds the files there.

  • Processed in the browser. pdf.js reads the PDF on your device. Passwords are used to open the file and then forgotten.
  • Locked down by the browser. Our Content-Security-Policy only allows connections back to khatasheet.com, so the page cannot send data to any other site.
  • Check it yourself. Open developer tools → Network and convert a file. You will see no upload, only an anonymous count such as "conversion succeeded, SBI format, 48 rows".
  • No cookies, no accounts, no ads. Exactly what we count, and how to switch it off.

Compared with manual entry

Stop retyping statements

Typing a statement into Excel or Tally is slow, and the errors only surface at reconciliation. Here is what changes.

TaskBy handWith KhataSheet
Getting the rows out Type every date, narration, cheque number and amount by hand. Read straight from the PDF's own text, in seconds, on your computer.
Catching mistakes A transposed digit shows up weeks later as a reconciliation gap. Every running balance is re-checked. The exact row that doesn't add up is flagged.
Totals Re-add the sheet and hope it agrees with the statement. Opening + credits − debits = closing, verified to the paisa before you export.
Into Tally Voucher-by-voucher entry, choosing a ledger for each line. One XML import: Payment, Receipt and Contra vouchers against your bank ledger.
Ledger mapping Decide from scratch every month, then fix typos when Tally rejects a ledger. Load the client's ledger list from Tally once. Rows are matched to those exact ledgers, and your choices are remembered.
Cash and duplicates Scan the statement by eye for big cash entries and double charges. Cash over ₹10,000 in a day, ₹2 lakh deposits, duplicates and transfers between the client's own accounts are listed for review.
Client confidentiality The statement stays with you. Still stays with you. Unlike upload-based converters, the PDF never leaves your device.

Built for client work

Post to the client's real ledgers, not to Suspense

Everything below runs in your browser like the converter itself. Ledger lists and client profiles are saved on your computer only.

Each client's Tally ledgers

Load the List of Accounts exported from TallyPrime (XML, Excel or CSV). Every row can then only use ledgers that exist in that company, and the masters file creates only the ones that are genuinely new.

Clear Suspense in minutes

Suggestions from UPI and NEFT names, cheques, charges, interest, GST, TDS and salary. Accept the confident ones in one click, select or filter rows and assign a ledger in bulk, or work through the unassigned rows with the keyboard.

Checks before you post

Cash over ₹10,000 in a day, cash deposits of ₹2 lakh or more, deposits banks report to the tax department, possible duplicates and transfers between the client's own accounts. Click any check to jump to the row.

See how to use a client's ledger list and what each check means.

What we have verified

Accuracy you can check, not take on trust

KhataSheet is new, so instead of testimonials, here is what we have tested and how.

254/254 vouchers

Test vouchers from five bank formats imported into TallyPrime 7.2 with zero errors, then exported back out of Tally and matched field by field.

0 bytes uploaded

Of your statement, ever, for digital PDFs. Our automated browser test fails if a conversion contacts any other website.

₹0.00 rounding drift

Amounts are kept as whole paise, never floating-point, so totals in Excel and Tally add up to the last paisa.

Tests use synthetic statements that mimic each bank's layout. Using KhataSheet on a real statement? Tell us how it went, or use the feedback buttons after converting.

FAQ

Questions accountants ask

Something else? Write to us. We read everything.

Is my bank statement uploaded anywhere?

No. Digital PDFs are opened and converted by code running in your browser. The file, the password and the transactions stay on your device. You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, Network tab, and convert a file. No file is sent; the only request is an anonymous count to our own site (for example "conversion succeeded, SBI format, 48 rows"). Our pages also set a Content-Security-Policy that blocks connections to other websites.

Which banks are supported?

SBI, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Axis Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank formats are tuned and tested. PNB, Bank of Baroda, Canara, Union Bank, IDFC FIRST, Yes Bank, IndusInd and co-operative bank passbook layouts are recognised and tested on look-alike sample files. Other banks often work with the generic reader, which finds the Date / Narration / Debit / Credit / Balance columns on its own. The balance check shows whether it worked.

How do I know the numbers are right?

Every conversion runs a balance check: opening balance + credits − debits must equal the closing balance, and each row's running balance must match the previous balance plus that row's amount. Rows that do not match are flagged in red. We never "fix" numbers silently.

Can I import the result into Tally?

Yes. Download the Tally-compatible XML. Debits become Payment vouchers and credits become Receipt vouchers against your bank ledger, with the counter ledger you choose for each row (or a suspense ledger). Rows marked Contra (e.g. ATM cash) become Contra vouchers. Import the ledger masters file first (Import > Masters in TallyPrime) and choose "Ignore Duplicates" for masters that already exist, so your existing ledgers keep their groups. Then use Import > Transactions (TallyPrime) or Import of Data > Vouchers (Tally.ERP 9). Each voucher carries a stable ID, so importing the same statement again updates those vouchers instead of creating duplicates.

My PDF has a password. What do I do?

Enter it when asked. It is used only in your browser to open the file. The bank's email that carried the statement normally explains the password format.

What about scanned statements?

Yes, they work. Scanned pages are read with OCR (text recognition) right in your browser, so they are not uploaded. It takes about 5 to 15 seconds a page, and the first time the browser downloads the OCR program (about 5 MB). Cells the OCR is unsure about are highlighted, and the balance check shows any row that does not add up. If a page still fails, you can choose to let Google's Gemini AI read just that page: we ask first, every time, and say exactly what is sent. A PDF downloaded from net banking is still best: it converts instantly and exactly.

Is it free?

Yes, KhataSheet is free and unlimited during launch: no page limits, no sign-up and no card.

Do you track me?

No cookies, no advertising trackers and no accounts. We count anonymous events such as page views, conversions, the bank format detected and whether the balance check passed, so we know what works. They never include your file, transactions, amounts or anything that identifies you. The privacy policy lists every field and has a switch to turn counting off.
